Writing this means that I have to admit one of my greatest fallacies that I ever committed…I…fell…asleep…in a movie theater! I know, I know, true movie buffs don’t do this. It not only goes against everything we believe in about movies, but also tarnishes our sacred temple, the theater itself. For this act, I sincerely apologize, but I had just had a huge fricken lunch before, and what can I say, full belly+dark lighting+having a hard time getting into a movie=ZzZzZzZzZz
Suffice it to say, I never gave this movie a real chance when it came out awhile back, and I always like to give a movie a fair shot. Thus, after getting a gumball that was the correct color at the video store, earning me a free movie, I decided now was as good of a time as ever.
Result: It actually wasn’t zZzZzZzZzZz worthy. On the contrary, some parts were pretty hilarious. Not my favorite comedy ever, but it had some good moments. I’m actually not the biggest Will Ferrell movie fan, but for some reason I really liked him in this. He was playing a different kind of stupid that he executed really well. I usually always like Mark Wahlberg, too, so the pairing was pretty good.

So Ryan Gosling makes everything good no matter what. Freaking talented to the max and the kind of attractiveness that took me a couple years to love, but now gets a very approving head nod from me.
This movie, however, wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. It was really good, but not my style. I like action and intensity, and although I am clearly very bad ass, I wasn’t able to relate to like anything in the story, so it was difficult for me to truly latch on and love it. Acting was great by everyone! I definitely recommend it if you like very heavy, intense, “I’m gonna kill you because I can and you’re a bitch” movies, then see it!
Or if you’re like me, see it because you love Sir Gosling.

Growing up, I was the ultimate queen of Disney movies. Well, actually the princess, because it was the closest way I could be linked to Ariel, Snow White, and Mulan.
So many people I knew raved about this movie, and I can’t say these days cartoons are my favorite thing to watch, but I was dying to see why everyone liked it so much.
So, on a Tuesday night when both one of my closest friends at college and I finally weren’t drowning in homework, we watched it. (This was like her third time doing so.)
Disney graphics have come such a long way! I still can’t get over that castle that is shown in the beginning. Remember when it was just that simple blue screen with the white outline of the castle? Man, I’d love if every now and then I could go back to being six for the day.
Anyway, so I agree that this was a cute movie! Favorite character? That freaking hilarious horse! That bad ass chameleon is definitely up there too.
I wish I could have hair that was insanely healthy even if it spent most of its time being dragged through the dirt.
One thing I’d also like to comment on is that fact that Rapunzel looked about 14 and Flynn looked about 27. Is that okay? Not too sure…But whatevs.
Overall Rating: 6.9/10 (Only classic Disney movies will ever get a 10 in my book)

So glad I finally got to see this in theaters two weekends ago! I had to see what made it Golden Globe win worthy.
I need to first put forth a disclaimer that any movie I see at the theater near my college is probably going to have a slightly biased review due to the awesomeness of the theater itself.
Here’s what I got to sit in while I watched this movie:
Never have I been so comfortable in a movie theater seat, thus furthering my desire to forever moonlight as film critic.
Anyway, back to what really matters. The Descendants was a very good movie. Think of it as an upscale Lifetime movie with exceptional acting. Once again, having seen this weekends ago is causing my mind to lag on producing actual good thoughts.
But I will say that one that what’s perhaps the best part of this movie is that it truly takes you on the emotional journey with these characters, mainly Clooney. You find things out when he does, you start to piece things together when he begins to, and you try to understand as he struggles to do the same. You feel like you’re a part of this family’s story, a true component of a great movie.
I’d like to add that despite the girl from The Secret Life of the American Teenage, Shailene Woodley, was in it, who I was very apprehensive about to the hostile feelings I have towards that ABC Family show, she did a great job. Clearly, given the right role, she act her pants off, and was a great addition to this movie.
Kudos to the Golden Globe winner and favorited Oscar pick!

So I watched this weeks ago, but resuming my role as Chemistry’s bitch has taken away time from my lovely tumblr.
I rented this movie kind of on a whim. I knew it was up for an Oscar for cinematography, and I suddenly was undergoing an increased interest in Hugh Jackman, so I thought, “Why not?”
SOOOOOO glad I did. Really, really liked it! I hope it wins the Oscar (Yes, I’m biased, as I have no clue as to who the opponents in the category are, but I’m sticking by it.).
A good story, and the fight scenes were insanely suspenseful! Like dang!
Damn, I really should’ve wrote about this sooner because in the few days after I saw this, I was talking about it to anyone who would listen.
The moral of this movie? I am in love with Hugh Jackman. Not sure if I want him to be my father, or the father of my kids. Messed up? Kinda. Caring? Not so much.

I know I was late to seeing this, and yes, I was beyond pissed off because of this fact. I had seen the other two in the movie theater, and had planned to do the same with this one. Alas, bad luck stepped in and prevented it.
I watched this like a week ago, but adjusting back to college has taken me away from endless hours on the internet (a good thing for my bloodshot/myopic eyes).
This is one of those franchises where you either love or hate it. I’m a lover. The second one, especially, even got my blood boiling, something most horror movies don’t normally do.
I’m thinking I didn’t find the third installment as scary because:
1) I watched it in my home at like 2 o’clock in the afternoon with my mom who fell asleep
2) I watched it on a not particularly big, not flat screen TV.
However, once again, I really loved the premise, and the story line definitely kept me interested. I just really wished I could have seen it in the theaters, or home alone/with friends in a basement in the dark.
And those little girls had a freaking nice ass room! Sure, I’d rather take my box of a space with chipped walls over being possessed, but damn! Those girls had a sweet crib.

You know, my initial impression of this movie was “eh. I don’t really think an Oscar nomination is in order here.”
However, after having a couple days to think about it, it was actually pretty good. I still don’t think it necessarily merits an Oscar nom, but it was definitely more then “eh.”
However, the cinematography was really superb, and whoever was responsible for that really utilized Paris and all its beauty. The 3 minute opening montage that purely showcased Paris was gorgeous. I really hope I get to see it in person some day.
Owen Wilson was an interesting person to cast for the lead role. At first, I though it wasn’t the best choice, and in some ways, I still get that vibe, but for the most part, he actually did quite well as Gil Pender. I liked his realness that he brought to the role.
My favorite aspect about this movie was the “travelling” back to Paris in the 1920s. I loved how they characterized all the famous men and women who truly shined during that time, like Hemingway (above), Dali, the Fitzgeralds, and one of my favorite portrayals in this movie, Gertrude Stein. There were some names I had to look up as I watched, but it was fun learning about people that I definitely should be affiliated with after all they have contributed to the arts and such.
So, not a bad movie. Enjoyable and light, beautiful scenery, and a good cast.
And Ernest Hemingway seems like he would be a hoot to have hung out with.

Damn. I really wish I had read this book. I bet it was exceptionally empowering. Great movie. The little kid, Oskar, is beyond captivating, and Thomas Horn has remarkable talent for such a young age. Major kudos to you, Tommy.
This movie doesn’t need a lengthy review. It just needs to be watched. It will have you thinking long after you leave the theater, and I do believe it has earned it’s Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
One thing I want to point out is how happy I am that the man who played the grandfather in this movie, Max von Sydow, received a nom for his role. Never spoke a single word, yet conveyed an indescribable amount of emotion. Seriously amazing acting on his part.
Oh, Sanda Bullock and Tom Hanks? We buds. Love them, too.

Let’s start this review with some brutal honestly. Ladies, gay men, straight men, animals: Please keep your eyes of the fine specimen known as Ryan Gosling. He already proposed to me, we’re blissfully happy, so proceed to back the frig off.
On my quest to see all the movies nominated for Golden Globes, this one was next on my list.
I really loved it!
It’s been pointed out many, many times in the past that scandal and politics go hand in hand. It’s really nothing new, so yes, it’s not like the movie explored something that all Americans aren’t all-too aware of.
However, this movie used an amazing cast to do so.
I haven’t seen The Descendants, the movie George Clooney won the GG for, but Gosling’s performance was absolutely stellar. Clooney did great, too, and I think we all know that Philip Seymour Hoffman is the best supporting actor ever actualized. What a boss he is. Evan Rachel Wood also was pretty good at being a sluttly, naive young girl, that made you want to slap her to grow up, but also want to reach out and help her get on track.
What’s funny about this movie is that there really was no “good guy.” Even Gosling had some corruptness to him, but in a way, you couldn’t help but love him for it. Justifiable corruptness I suppose. Or maybe I’m just biased because we’re engaged.
I won’t give away the big scandal, but I didn’t see it coming. Let’s just say you’ll go from thinking “Yeah! Clooney for President!” to “Get this pig out of my sight and stick a prize-winning cucumber up his ass.” Great acting all around, truly.
See it!

Let me start off by saying that the plot in Contagion is one of my worst fears. I’ve mentioned before that it’s real-life, plausible stuff that scares me, and not a monster with slimy hands that has a wolf head. Diseases fascinate me, and for awhile I thought I wanted to be an epidemiologist when I grew up, but after watching this movie, I realize that I don’t know nearly enough big words to be able to do the job.
A quip I had with this movie can be linked to the “Holiday Movie Effect.” What I am referring to is Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve, the movies that contained every celebrity ever created. I haven’t seen the latter, but while Valentine’s Day was “cute,” there was just WAY TOO MUCH going on. I like movies that contain several story lines that somehow connect together, but in that case, no. Just no. Too much hyping up that lots of big names were in the movie and not enough good movieness. I slightly saw that in Contagion, what with having a handful of well-known, critically acclaimed actors and actresses like Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyenth Paltrow, Jude Law, and Marion Cotillard. I always love Winslet and Damon, and Law if I’m in the right mood, and I respect Cotillard as an actress, but Paltrow usually receives the intimidating eye squint/head nod from me. I really like that they executed this movie from several perspectives, and I normally like that, but something just seemed a little off about it. I was left wanting more from certain character’s sagas.
Overall, I hope I’m not jinxing myself for not giving this movie the best review if in fact we are hit with a plague in the near future. Shit.
It wasn’t all bad! Definitely rooted in an intriguing/terrifying idea, and got me thinking for sure. (2 karma points earned)
